3 MAN Web Presses For Italian Publisher
Il Sole 24 ORE, the European economic and financial media group, has ordered three MAN Roland Regioman web offset presses, to be delivered in 2005.
Within the packaging group, Leunisman specialises in premium packaging for body care products and cosmetics.
The firm is known as an enhancement innovator and mainly uses the Inline Foiler Prindor with one reel for applying solid and fine foil elements to the sheets, which can then be overprinted with six UV inks and two hits of coating.
Leunisman's managing director, Hans-Christian Bestehorn, believes that packaging designers and advertising agencies are not yet sufficiently aware of the very fine foil elements that can be transferred and overprinted by the technology.
He summarised the benefits: "The press with Inline Foiler Prindor boosts our capacity considerably because we save one off-line enhancement process.
On top of that, applying foil in-line provides unbeatable register accuracy and, of course, we have now increased our design possibilities.
Overprinting the foil enables us to offer images that were not possible earlier." K and D in Switzerland also specialises in folding boxes.
It mainly serves customers from the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
A Roland 700 press with six printing units, two coating modules and a multi-reel Inline Foiler Prindor was installed last October, which sometimes runs with five foil reels but mostly with four.
Multi-reel operation is virtually the norm with single reels being run only occasionally.
Stefan Kuhn, governing board delegate at K and D sees an important advantage of multi-reel operation as being foil cost savings.
Depending on the subject, different numbers of foils in different widths can be used.
He explained: "Besides that, this new method of in-line enhancement gives us countless possibilities.
We apply the foil as fine elements, or as solids and we overprint with four colours, as well as with Pantone colours and overprinting the foil with vignetted halftone screens." Kuhn added that that customers' judgement of gloss varies considerably as some prefer the unchallenged sheen of hot-foil stamping, whilst others prefer the more matt effect of cold foil.
He summarised K and D's experiences: "With the Inline Foiler Prindor we partially substitute hot-foil stamping and we are also gaining customers by offering completely new applications.".
