As the UK new UK distributor for Yawa machinery, MAN Roland GB has installed a dedicated B1 cutting, stripping and creasing system at print management services company APS Group.

The Yawa MW1050A machine incorporates automated stripping and is claimed to handle sheet sizes up to 1,050mm x 750mm It also includes a touch screen operator interface and is said to be capable of running at 5,500 sheets per hour

The machine will replace existing, traditional Heidelberg cylinder equipment at APS and will provide for a significantly greater throughput, claimed the company.

The Chinese manufactured Yawa MW1050A, which has been commissioned in APS Group's Stockport (UK) operation - is one of a range of products manufactured by Shanghai Yawa Printing Machinery.

APS Group's production director, Stephen Goodall, travelled to China in 2007 to see the machine being manufactured and he commented: "The Chinese saw a gap in the market place in terms of this B1 machine and are now manufacturing a high specification piece of kit that is very competitively priced." He explained: "We have a growing demand here for cutting and creasing work.

Our two MAN Roland 700 10-colour presses are allowing us to produce a higher volume of printed sheets and, proportionately, that increases the amount of cutting and creasing work that we have to process.

The Yawa will allow us to keep pace with the increasing demands of our customers." Roger Cartwright, director of finishing equipment sales at MAN Roland GB, said: "Yawa is able to provide us with a range of cutting and creasing machines that offer excellent functionality and throughput for a significantly lower price than other suppliers.

We believe that there will be a surge in demand for these products to replace aging and slow Heidelberg cylinder machines, which is the equipment that has long been the workhorse of the cutting and creasing sector of the market, simply because there was little affordable competition." Cartwright explained: "Not only does Yawa provide a suitably priced product, it offers significantly higher performance, as illustrated by the 5,500 sheets per hour maximum speed of the MW1050A model installed at APS Group.

The Heidelberg cylinders at the company would be expected to handle a maximum of just 2,000 sheets per hour." Stephen Goodall added: "The machine was installed in just under four days and following a few days demonstration, we were fully up and running in a very short space of time.

The quality of the machine is impressive and fully lives up to our expectations.".
