MAN Roland will use the Drupa 2008 exhibition from May 29 - June 11 as the venue to introduce its latest web offset printing developments alongside its latest sheetfed press innovations.

The company's robot-based Automatic Plate Loading system for newspaper presses, which was launched last year, will now be introduced for its commercial web presses, with the Rotoman and Lithoman machines receiving the system MAN Roland said that, as a result, the Lithoman will be able to complete an eight-plate change-over in four minutes instead of the current 10 minutes using a Power Plate Loading system

Those developments for the Lithoman range follow the latest MAN Roland sales success, with five more orders for the 80-page Lithoman just finalised press and with developments for a 2.86-metre web width 96 page press to add to the range now under way.

The company said that it also expects to be able to release the long grain and short grain versions of a 96 page machine.

In addition, MAN Roland has announced new web press drying technology, RTO, which is currently running in three pilot sites running, including Southernprint in the UK.

The technology is claimed by the company to provide reductions in gas consumption and the concept will be adopted for its 96-page presses.

MAN Roland added that its expected Drupa exhibits for sheetfed printing will include all of its five major model variants - the 200, 500, 700 Directdrive, 700 Hiprint and the 900XXL.

The company said that three new packages for the Roland 200 will be made available under the Profitplus brand.

Profitplus Comfort is said to provide board printing capability, along with EPL plate loading.

Profitplus Premium incorporates Colourpilot Smart and a third variant, Profitplus de Luxe, would also include a range of specialist options.

The Roland 700 Hiprint will be exhibited with Quickchange modules and would also be available in MAN Roland's series of extended formats, a 3B format providing 78cm x 105cm.

The Roland 900XXL with Inline Perfecting, which has already secured orders, includes a three cylinder perfecting system capable of producing between 10,000 and 11,000 sheets per hour, claimed the company.

Perfecting would be available for the size 7, 7B and size 8 versions of the press.

A new APL system will also be available for the Roland 900XXL, covering the same range of sizes.

MAN Roland has also announced that it has adapted its Inline Foiler Prindor to the B2 format to be applied to the Roland 500, which it believes will increase its market penetration to add to the almost 50 installations of the system in the B1 sector.

The company added that is is also to launch a new standardisation tool for measuring proofs, plates and prints.

The Processpilot is claimed to be appropriate to those printers that are looking to incorporate the ISO 12647 standard within their workflow systems.

In addition, MAN Roland's Inline Colorpilot, which has been until now available as a near-line system, can now be incorporated within the press on the Roland 500, 700 and 900 models.

It is believed that by moving colour management inside the press there will be reduced wastage and such systems are already running within the web presses with sheetfed beta tests having proved successful.

MAN Roland will exhibit at Drupa 08 in hall 6 within the Printcity area.
