Colourgen has been appointed the exclusive UK distributor for the Colorspan 9840UV, MacDermid Colorspan's new industrial grade UV-curable flatbed printer The printer won the product of the year award at the SGIA 2006 Show in Las Vegas (USA) in the flatbed rigid substrate output device category

Bruce Butler, director of marketing for MacDermid Colorspan, said: "We are once again honoured to win another prestigious award with the image quality of our printers.

The printer will be available from November through authorised Colourgen resellers and it will be fully supported through Colourgen's range of maintenance, engineering and training services.

Colourgen will also distribute MacDermid Colorspan's complete range of printers, including the Displaymaker 72UVR, 72UVX and 98UVX flatbed inkjet printers." The Colorspan 9840UV is claimed to enable printing on to rigid sheets or flexible roll stock up to 2.5 metres (98") wide and 70mm (2.75") thick.

It is designed around a belt driven media feed system and sixteen 600 dots per inch (dpi) Micro-Quad piezo-electric printheads.

The Colorspan 9840UV provides true 600dppi x 600dpi quality and prints at speeds up to 75.4 square metres per hour (811 square feet).

Jeff Biggs, Colourgen's managing director, commented: "MacDermid Colorspan is the global leader in the flatbed inkjet printer market, with more UV-curable printers installed worldwide than any other manufacturer.

We have long felt that the UV-curable market is an important one for us to enter.

With the legislation on aggressive solvent inks set to become more stringent, we feel it is vital that we offer our customers more choice and more options for delivering high quality graphics and displays for both indoor and outdoor requirements.

MacDermid Colorspan's heritage in this market makes it the ideal company for us to partner with in the UK." Michel de Jong, general manager EMEA for MacDermid Colorspan, added: "Colourgen has an unrivalled reputation in the UK for delivering complete, cost-effective systems for the large format and grand format digital inkjet market.

The company works only with leading specialist resellers and provides resellers and end users with a comprehensive range of installation, maintenance, engineering and support services.

We believe Colourgen is an excellent choice to handle the UK distribution of our products and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship built on the high-quality delivery of our high-quality products." The Colorspan 9840UV combines roll-fed and flatbed technology in the same printer.

Its design is claimed to allows it to handle thick rigid materials just as well as it handles roll-fed media.

That means the user gains much greater value from the system in terms of the range of applications it provides and the speed with which they can be delivered.

As a flatbed printer, the Colorspan 9840UV handles rigid media up to 7cm thick.

It can handle a range of substrates utilising its conveyor belt feed containing 15 vacuum zones.

That allows even unusual materials, such as concrete, rough wood, polished floor tiles and plastic flooring to be printed, said MacDermid Colorspan.

Jeff Biggs explained: "The Colorspan 9840UV offers an incredible range of applications and is the ideal digital inkjet accompaniment for screenprinters and other production graphics companies.

Colorspan has drawn on all its experience in the UV flatbed market to deliver an excellent printer that we are confident will prove hugely popular in the UK and Ireland.".
