Web Cleaning System Solves Dust Problems
Dust contamination on the web surface, causing poor print quality on a Kopack narrow web press has been solved by the installation of a Series 1000 SCT system from Meech International.
The dust problems were being encountered by Colgate-Palmolive in Guangzhou (China) where the Series 1000 SCT web cleaning system has improved production of toothpaste packaging But Colgate has now installed Meech SCT systems on all Kopack narrow web presses in its Guang Zhou plant in China, resulting in improved print quality, higher productivity and profitability

Meech Eradicates Hickie Problem At Jarrold
Norwich-based Jarrold Printing, a leader in web-offset printing, has invested in Meech web-cleaning to resolve a persistent problem with hickies.
The dust and dirt in the atmosphere at the Colgate-Palmolive plant resulted in machine stoppages and low productivity.
Engineers at Colgate approached Meech International's local office in Shanghai via Guangzhou Yeomanry, a Meech distributor in south China, to discuss the possibility of installing its Series 1000 web cleaning system for effective contamination control.
Engineers from Meech China visited the company to assess the situation and recommend the best solution.
The Series 1000 SCT system was identified as being suitable but because of the frame size of the narrow web press, a customised system was needed.
Meech worked with engineers from Colgate and Yeomanry to modify the standard equipment to provide a system that would fit in to the existing equipment.
Meech engineers also provided on-site installation support.
The Series 1000 SCT system incorporates static eliminators, brushes and a vacuum dust collection system.
That is said to ensure not only that dust contamination is eliminated but also that the risk of further dust attraction is minimised.
Meech static eliminator bars are claimed to break down the electrostatic bond holding dust particles to the web and the brushes destroy the boundary layer on the moving web, allowing removal of contamination.
The Series 1000 has been designed with a vacuum control plate that gives complete coverage of the material surface, added Meech.
Flexible ducting then carries the contaminants to the collection system, where they are collected in a filter bag.
The Series 1000 SCT system is claimed by Meech to have advantages over conventional sticky roller and non-contact systems.
No additional rollers are required and there are no consumables to replace, saving time and money.
With no compressed air requirements, further savings can also be made.
According to Meech, dust control is a major issue throughout the packaging and printing industries.
