Web Cleaning System Eliminates Dust

A Meech International product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Feb 1, 2008

One of Meech International's Series 1000 web cleaning systems has been bought by an Australian producer of recycled paper and associated products on a printing press.

Combining static eliminators, brushes and a vacuum dust collection system, the Series 1000 System is claimed to ensure not only that dust contamination is eliminated but also that the risk of further dust attraction is minimised.

Alan Chadwick, the international product manager for Meech's Surface Cleaning Division said: "We are very pleased with this order as the application is particularly challenging.

Due to the fact that recycled paper has a much shorter fibre length than normal paper, the fibres break out more easily as the paper passes over the press rollers.

This results in contamination of the web surface and poor print quality.

Our system worked well throughout the trials and has both improved the print quality on the press and increased productivity by reducing the downtime needed for cleaning." Meech said that static eliminator bars cause the electrostatic charge binding the dust particles to the web to be broken down and the brushes destroy the boundary layer on the moving web, allowing efficient removal of contamination.

The Series 1000 is said by Meech to have been designed with a vacuum control plate that gives complete coverage of the material surface.

Flexible ducting then carries the contaminants to the collection system, where they are collected in a filter bag.

Two versions of the system are available.

The T section version is claimed to be suitable for most applications, whereas the I section is for installations where headspace is particularly limited.

Meech added that its engineers will advise users on the most suitable position for the cleaning heads and individual mounting brackets that will be supplied.
