Hannu Kottonen has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of M-real Cartons.

Hannu Kottonen has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of M-real Cartons business, which includes cartonboard and corrugated case materials production as well as its carton manufacturing and packaging operations.

Kottonen is also a member of M-real's marketing and sales management board.

He joins M-real from Huhtamaki Group, one of the largest packaging companies in the world, where he worked as chief financial officer and member of the executive committee.

Prior to that he was president of Huhtam?ki's Fresh Food Division.

Kottonen sees his primary task as strengthening M-real's leading position in the international packaging market: "Packaging is playing an increasingly important role in branding as well as in distribution and customer relations.

It protects the product during distribution and handling and should also make the product visible, contribute to sales and strengthen the market position of the brand owner.

This puts high demands on both the packaging converter and board manufacturer when it comes to product development and customer orientation.

But I know that M-real is at the forefront and has high ambitions within this area.

It was a deciding factor in my accepting this job and I am very enthusiastic at being a part of the future of packaging development," said Kottonen.

He is based at M-real's head office in Espoo, Finland.

M-real's turnover in 2003 from its packaging operations was about 870 million Euros, of which sales of board represented the greatest majority.
