The Sample Centre also holds a wide variety of real examples of printed material including magazines, catalogues, brochures, leaflets, direct mail and illustrated books from M-real's international collection.

The company claimed that a major benefit is faster turnaround of dummies incorporating mixed stocks, now all held at the same site for the first time.

"Dummies are ideal for supporting a customers' decision-making, as they demonstrate the look and feel of an end publication using different formats, sizes, cover formats or paper stocks," said Marjo Halonen of M-real.

"A typical request will be for two or three dummies, made up in different paper weights or grades, or to compare coated with uncoated, silk with gloss.

Thickness, stiffness, browsing properties, sturdiness and the 'thud factor' can all be assessed to take risk out of the final choice," he added.

Samples and dummies can be ordered via your local M-real sales office, as before.

Requests will be fulfilled within two-four working days, depending on the complexity of the job, with urgent small jobs supplied within 24 hours.

Tracking of deliveries is available from the carrier UPS.

The Sample Centre's magazine examples cover different segments including women's interests, home and decoration, current affairs, travel, men's interests and lifestyle.

Customers can see how a particular paper performs in a certain sector, with appropriate types of images and designs.

The centre also supplies copies of M-real's own customer magazines, sample comparator books, product brochures, product specification sheets, and M-real corporate and environmental brochures.

The Centre at Kirkniemi (Finland) comprises dummy manufacturing equipment, sheet cutter, creasing machine, stitcher and gluing press; display room; paper and sample stock and dispatch centre.
