The first and most challenging phase of the investment project took place last December when the machine was shut down for just one week.
Three new headboxes were installed and modifications made in the wet end.
The first phase of the total investment has already resulted in improvements to the formation and quality consistency of Simwhite and Simcote boards, said M-real.
The construction of the new sheeting department and reel warehouse has also progressed successfully and finishing equipment is currently being trialled.
The second phase of the investment will include upgrades to the press and drying sections and the installation of a completely new reeler.
A shutdown of 17 days will start during this week and all construction work will be completed by the end of March.
The company said thaty the rebuild will improve the quality of Simwhite and Simcote boards, resulting in better yield through light-weighting and enhancements to visual appearance, smoothness and consistency.
M-real's Simpele board mill will have the latest winding and packaging technology, a cutter reel store, increased board production capacity of 215,000 tonnes per annum and sheeting capacity, which will enable the mill to offer an express board sheeting service.
