Thin Margins Prompt Magazine Papers
Price Rise
The price of magazine papers in the UK and Ireland is about to rise by EUR50, or GBP40 per tonne as M-real Graphic Papers counters what it described as 'razor-thin mill margins'.
M-real Graphic Papers UK and Ireland said it plans to implement the increase during the second quarter of this year The company's regional director for the UK and Ireland, Andrew Gunman, explained: "The market for magazine paper supply to the UK is changing rapidly
The major dip in the currency has had a severe impact on what are already razor-thin mill margins.
Meanwhile, increases in wood, energy and other costs continue to worsen, so in summary, no improvement is forecast in the cost and currency situation for the foreseeable future." He added: "However, demand for magazine paper remains exceptionally strong overall and the price increases are needed to maintain continuity of supply.".
