Art departments and printers currently have to undertake costly manual intervention in order to ensure variable data, such as names, addresses and images, fits within the field limits stipulated in print ready artwork.

Mtivity said its new software negates the need for such intervention by creating PDF artwork templates and, at the same time, automatically merging variable data into those templates.

The automatic production of print-ready PDF files ensures that complex processes such as Quark mark-ups are eradicated, allowing anyone, whatever their experience, to deliver quality direct marketing materials.

"Until now, merging personalised data into pre-approved artwork has involved an unacceptable level of intervention, with time-consuming matching of variable data elements and manual mark-ups of artwork," said Mat Atkinson, chief executive, Mtivity.

"Mtivity gets rid of this time-consuming process by providing a simple but powerful template creation process and then automatically merging data at the production stage.

The result is a quicker, simpler and streamlined production process with significantly improved press utilisation for printers.

Consumers now expect personalised marketing communications.

However, it is not always cost-effective to produce these materials, particularly for smaller projects," continued Atkinson.

The company said that it now makes short run, variable data printing cost effective with a combination of PDF templates and automated variable data management.
