What happened to old-fashioned pen and paper
D and AD, the professional association and charity for the design and advertising communities, has released its annual review.
Many old friends from the industry and customers who have maintenance contracts and equipment from MGS and Centurfax were invited along.
The chairman of Picon, Roy Caslon, was guest of honour and cut the tape to officially open the 10,000 square foot building comprising a large ground floor showroom area and workshops with the upstairs used for offices.
Original directors of Centurfax, John Pickering and Chris House, were there as were Marlowe Graphic's Alan Thompson and Oliver Palmer to cut their respective company's birthday cakes.
Marlowe's managing director Bob Leslie said: "This day is to celebrate our past achievements, as well as looking forward to the future and the exciting new products in our portfolio." Other key partners from the industry were also represented including Billows, ECRM, EFI, Global Graphics, Ipex, KBA (UK), Ripware, ROI and Xrite.
MGS took the opportunity to show a variety of the equipment that it supplies and supports.
On show was ROI's digital print software, Xralle, which was outputting to a Xerox 5252 Docucolour digital press, the Ecodev unit for plate processors, Billows' on-line punch bender, and ECRM's Mako 4 CTP.
Talking about the showroom, Andy Hemmings MGS's sales director explained: "Having the space to show the products we champion is very exciting for us.
We plan to have more open days in the near future where we can take customers through detailed demonstrations that are specific to their needs." Executives of the PrintIT project for promoting the printing industry's careers opportunities to schools also attended.
MGS director and Picon council member, Martyn Elmy, said: "Taking the print industry in to schools has been rewarding and enlightening.".
