Renewable Energy Makes Papers Carbon
Neutral
One hundred per cent renewable electricity is being used by Monadnock Paper Mills to manufacture its printing and packaging papers, making the process carbon neutral, said the company.
Monadnock said that it has invested in Green-e Wind Power Renewable Energy Credits As a result, Monadnock's printing and packaging papers are now made entirely with clean, renewable energy

Recognising that commitment, the Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Monadnock with its certificate of leadership in the Green Power Leadership programme.
Not only are the company's papers manufactured with renewable energy, all of Monadnock's printing and packaging papers are manufactured carbon neutral.
Through the acquisition of carbon-offset credits, or Verified Emission Reductions (VER's), Monadnock neutralises the effects of carbon emissions created in the manufacturing process, said the company.
VER's are verified by a third party and registered on the Greenhouse Gas Registry of the Environmental Resources Trust and on the Chicago Climate Exchange in the USA.
Michelle Hamm, Monadnock's manager of environmental services, said: "In 2006, 49 per cent of our electricity was self-generated.
Since 1904, Monadnock has derived much of its energy from mill owned and operated low-impact hydro-electric generation facilities and Monadnock remains committed to the use of low-impact hydro-electric power." As an ISO 14001: 2004 certified company, Monadnock said it is the only premium uncoated paper mill in North America with that qualification.
In addition, Monadnock has received recognition as an EPA Performance Track Company for reducing its environmental impact year to year.
