Mosca, the provider of strapping systems, had a record trading year in 2006.
Mosca, the provider of strapping systems, had a record trading year in 2006.
The company attributes the success to its emphasis on homegrown technology and commitment to new product development.
Peter Foster, managing director of Mosca Direct, the company's wholly-owned UK subsidiary, said: "In the face of unfavourable conditions in the manufacturing sector, Mosca has bucked the trend with a strong performance.
It proves that machine reliability and high-quality service remain essential factors in choosing production line equipment." Central to Mosca's success, he believed, is that the company remains a family-owned business.
Founded in 1966 by Gerd Mosca, today it is run by his son, Timo.
That enables Mosca to control its finances, with EUR8 million investment made in to both the company's manufacturing plant in Germany and in to new product development in 2005.
Furthermore, in contrast to the trend in the market towards outsourcing, 80 per cent of Mosca's machine parts are manufactured in-house in addition to fabrication, reflecting the company's commitment to controlling the quality of its products.
Mosca added that its expertise is matched by its commitment to specialisation in strapping technology, which according to Peter Foster, gives the company an edge in the marketplace.
He commented: "Unlike logistics suppliers that offer strapping as part of a 'one stop' production line, Mosca recognises that there is no 'one size fits all' model.
Strapping requirements vary from industry to industry - whilst speed may be paramount for one company, another may prioritise accuracy, presentation or flexibility." Mosca said that it manufactures equipment covering all aspects from bundle strapping to compression strapping and the wrapping of pallets.
It added that its innovations include brushless motors, direct drive technology - which reduces the number of moving parts for increased efficiency and reliability - and airless systems that are said to be more cost-effective than machines requiring compressed air for operation.
In 2007, the company will unveil its latest development, the Sonixs ultrasonic sealing system that is claimed to provide a seal that is faster to apply and stronger.
Mosca added that it is also gaining a fast-growing reputation in Australia.
