Strapping Part Of Massive News International Plan
In the biggest individual order in its history, Mosca is supplying 114 specialist newspaper strapping machines to Ferag.
In the biggest individual order in its history, Mosca is supplying 114 specialist newspaper strapping machines to Ferag.
The order is part of an investment by News International that will see Mosca provide all end-of-line strapping at three custom-built publishing houses.
Part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, News International is investing EUR950 million in its new UK factories.
Located in London-Broxbourne, Glasgow and Knowsley, the sites are set to break new ground in the print industry, said Mosca.
Mosca added that end-of-line strapping is a key consideration for the print industry, as successful on-time delivery depends on reliable, high-speed strapping of bundles.
Working in conjunction with Ferag, provider of the mailroom technology across the three sites, News International's chief engineer Ian Dickson investigated the options and decided to use Mosca equipment after a three-month test confirmed its performance against all competitors.
Ferag has purchased 57 RO-TAI-5-D Mosca strapping lines (each consisting of the RO-TRI-5 in-line strapper and RO-TR-5-D with turning device) and 57 double pile-up conveyors.
The key benefit of the set-up is said to be that the RO-TR-5-D, which can be used to complete either parallel or cross -strapping of the bundle, provides back-up to ensure there are no line stoppages.
Mosca added that its all-electric strapping technology is notable for the elimination of compressed air and its related maintenance requirements, which reduces the operating costs of the machines.
Other factors in the selection of Mosca technology included the reliability of the machines, their service-friendliness and their ease of operation.
The Mosca strapping machines were installed in Glasgow last November and will be delivered to Knowsley and London-Broxbourne later this year.
Mosca's wholly-owned UK subsidiary, Mosca Direct, will be responsible for the servicing of the machines.
