New Fonts Developed For Windows Vista
Monotype Imaging has collaborated with Microsoft to include new and extended fonts with the Microsoft 2007 Office software and Windows Vista operating system.
The designs were developed in tandem so I could carefully work every aspect of the project and ensure that, used together, the designs would complement each other as much as possible." Said to be designed to harmonise with Monotype Imaging's slab serif Soho fonts, the Soho Gothic fonts are intended to work at all sizes for print and on-screen use.
Lester added: "Soho Gothic will appeal to designers and developers looking for type that offers a look that's clean, precise and uncluttered.
I wanted a mature and refined design that would perform as well being used as the backbone of a global brand as it would in an edgy fashion magazine, for instance." Soho Gothic is described as having stylistic alternates, which have been an intrinsic part of the Soho project, according to Robin Nicholas, head of typography at Monotype Imaging's UK subsidiary.
He explained: "Stylistic alternates give designers greater flexibility and simply make a typeface more useful.
The stylistic sets in these fonts bridge the gap between Soho and Soho Gothic with a suite of semi-slab alternates that are accessible through some of the 25 Opentype features of Soho Gothic." Soho fonts are available in the cross-platform compatible Opentype format from the Monotype Imaging website.
