Labels With Anti-Microbe Performance
Labels with built-in Microban anti-microbial protection for use in hospitals and other medical applications have been introduced by MTM Products.
MTM Products, working with Autotype Autotex AM polyester films, said the labels are suitable for applications where hygiene is of paramount importance Autotex AM is a textured polyester film with Microban anti-microbial protection on the textured hardcoat, which is incorporated in the manufacturing process
As soon as microbes come in to contact with the film, the anti-microbial function disrupts the bacterial cell wall and affects the ability of the bacteria to reproduce and so kills, or inhibits bacterial growth.
The result is the surface of the label remains bacteria-free, said MTM.
The company added that microbes are single-celled organisms, too small to be seen with the naked eye but they can double in number every 15 to 20 minutes.
They include bacteria, algae, fungi and mould.
Many can cause life threatening conditions.
