Nexpress Solutions' 2100 digital production colour press has been licensed by Pantone is now optimised for Pantone colour reproduction.

Nexpress Solutions' 2100 digital production colour press has been licensed by Pantone is now optimised for Pantone colour reproduction for both the four-colour CMYK press and the new Nexpress intelligent colour system employed by the 2100 with the fifth imaging unit A feature of the fifth imaging unit for the Nexpress 2100 is said to allow print businesses achieve an extended colour gamut beyond that available in standard four-colour process printing, enabling improvement in the reproduction of spot colours

The designation of the Nexpress 2100 press for CMYK and intelligent colour comes after an extensive and collaborative testing process between Nexpress and Pantone said the company.

To become a Pantone-licensed device, the press had to produce the best possible four-colour (CMYK) combinations in two areas - spot colour and repeatability of colour outputs - for the 1,114 colours in the Pantone Matching System.

The rigorous licensing process involved mapping out the correct values for colours, measuring printed targets and testing to create the best possible representations of Pantone colours.

"Designers and print buyers demand highly accurate Pantone reproduction.

With Nexpress intelligent color solutions, users are able to simulate 86 per cent of Pantone Matching System colours with excellent results," said Venkat Purushotham, president and chief executive officer, Nexpress Solutions.

"By investing in such a demanding process and working so diligently with the colour scientists at Pantone, the Nexpress 2100 press has earned the distinctive Pantone-licensed product designation, assuring press users will achieve Pantone accuracy and reliability on all their printed projects," he added.

Nexpress claimed that 2100 press operators only need to perform one simple check to achieve more accurate reproduction of Pantone colours.

By simply checking the 'map spot colour' box in the Nexstation front end, users would achieve an optimised match for Pantone colours.

Automation of the Pantone colour matching process is now available to all users of the Nexpress 2100 press through a software upgrade.

"Pantone's licensing of the Nexpress 2100 press, which represents a new generation of digital colour presses, demonstrates how much colour accuracy means to the company.

It was truly a collaborative process between two companies that share a mutual commitment to color development and accuracy," said Andrew Hatkoff, Pantone's vice president of electronic colour systems.
