Burggraf SA, a traditional repro business in Geneva (Switzerland) has made the move to digital production.

Burggraf SA, a traditional repro business in Geneva (Switzerland) has made the move to digital production.

The company installed a Kodak Nexpress 2100 digital colour press with a fifth imaging unit and Kodak Nexpress intelligent colour system, making Burggraf the first installation with that configuration in Switzerland said Nexpress.

After looking in to other systems, Christophe Burggraf, Burggraf Photolithos' managing director and partner, recognised the opportunities the Nexpress 2100 press with the fifth imaging unit offered.

"We were impressed by the 2100's print quality and particularly by its substrate flexibility, allowing a wide variety of papers including structured papers and weights up to 300gsm.

We have a big demand for postcards, invitations and point-of-sale promotional materials that require very solid paper board and good ink adhesion on structured papers.

The 2100 press can handle those requirements without any problem.

The possibility to print RGB colors is another strong selling point," explained Burggraf.

Nexpress commented that the 2100's fifth imaging unit with intelligent colour allows the company to more accurately match Pantone or customer specific colours and that Burggraf Photolithos also uses the coating system to add a flood or spot coating as an additional protective layer or to add watermarks, structures or other design elements.

The Nexpress 2100 produces three to four jobs per day, averaging 7,000 pages in total.

In addition to postcards and promotional materials, Burggraf produces flyers, folders, newsletters, brochures and sample binders for industrial customers as well as agencies that service international clients.

Burggraf Photolithos specialises in high-end digital print to successfully compete in the Swiss printing industry said Nexpress.

"We concentrate on the high-end sector and take a strategic position between copy shops and offset printing companies.

For this clientele, flexibility is important and it is crucial that jobs are turned around quickly, without compromising quality," said Burggraf.

Burggraf said his company also values the 2100 press's ORC (operator replaceable concept) feature, which allows the operator to service the press and exchange parts without external help - a process that results in high productivity with minimal down time, claimed Nexpress.

Burggraf Photolithos was founded by Burggraf's father in 1966 and concentrated on films and proofing.

In the late 1970s, the company started to offer retouching and image montage services.

When the print provider began to offer pre-press services in the late 1990s, Burggraf initially installed a digital offset device, which was replaced with the Nexpress 2100 digital colour press.

Today, the company concentrates on three services - pre-press, wide-format poster production and high quality digital printing on the Nexpress 2100.
