Nexpress has launched a fifth imaging unit for its 2100 digital production colour press.
That growth is a result of the company's substantial promotion of its digital capabilities, in the form of personalised mailings, on-site demonstrations and presentations.
Dinauer's offset customers needed encouragement to go digital but solid results quickly followed.
The Nexpress 2100 was installed in mid-2003, and shortly thereafter, Dinauer began producing large volumes of personalised digital print.
Werner Dinauer, managing director at Dinauer, noted: "Personalised printing in volumes between 20,000 and 100,000 are typical at Dinauer but fairly uncommon for digital printing in our area." One of the key purchasing reasons for Dinauer Medienbetrieb was the 2100's capability to produce high-quality print in conjunction with the server-based Nextreme DL-1000 variable data system.
It is said to effectively compose the printing job with static and variable elements in place and automatically transfer them for production on the Nexpress 2100, facilitating efficiency and productivity said Nexpress.
"In the beginning, dealing with databases was new territory for us, as well as for our customers.
To some extent, we created the variable data for them.
This is where we face all sorts of new challenges as a media company.
To make the personalisation process function properly, the customer databases must be integrated and cleaned up," said Dinauer.
The company's customers are primarily advertising agencies and industrial firms that require the production of personalised flyers with high visual impact.
Other variable data applications include customised mailings with varying text blocks; response elements such as fax numbers or e-mail addresses, as well as logos and images.
The firm is particularly proud of its large volume of print jobs for the Munich Oktoberfest.
After adding that client in 2003, Dinauer Medienbetrieb also printed the 2004 food and drinks vouchers ('Bier and Hendl vouchers') with Nextreme DL-1000 on the 2100 press.
This year, holographic foil was added as a security element after the printing process, adding a potential finishing challenge.
But according to Dinauer, the process was problem-free.
Another Dinauer success story was a sophisticated magazine with a personalised advertisement for the paper manufacturer M-Real.
The challenge was to combine the offset printed cover and inside pages with the digitally printed advertisement without noticeable differences in quality.
A cover letter and the corresponding magazine were then assembled in the mailroom.
"The speed, the flexibility, and the Nexpress 2100 press's high quality easily enabled us to satisfy even the most complex customer requirements.
Our customers are discovering the value of personalised print and its positive impact on customer loyalty," concluded Dinauer.
