Transcontinental, the seventh largest printer in the North American market, has added to its direct mail capabilities by installing six new Varypress 200s in its facility in Philadelphia.

The installation adds to the company's current six Nipson 8000s giving Transcontinental greater capability and flexibility for a wide range of direct mail applications, said Nipson.

With Nipson digital presses, Transcontinental can offer more choice to customers for direct mail campaigns in terms of paper thickness, substrates and document complexity, added the company.

Nipson's technology uses a combination of magnetography and non-heat flash fusing to print on a range of materials, including foils, plastics, labels and carbonless paper.

Nipson presses are also said to enable more complex and high added-value applications, such as tipped-on cards, duplex printing, and MICR printing.

Chris Carosella, vice president of direct mail, for the eastern operations of Transcontinental Direct, said: "We are committed to investing in technologies that improve our ability to service our direct mail customers.

The new Varypress systems add to our capability for high volumes of direct mail and also give us the flexibility our customers need to grow their business with unique and effective direct mail pieces." The six new Varypress 200 units installed at the Transcontinental facility include the 4000th magnetographic press delivered from Nipson's manufacturing facility in Belfort (France).

Alfons Buts, Nipson's managing director, said: "This important landmark demonstrates that a solid and growing group of Nipson users worldwide are finding Nipson's flexibility and durability key to serving their customer needs.

We are happy to play an important part in Transcontinental's expanded service to the direct mail industry and look forward to many years of continued service and support.".
