As the doors closed on the last day of UK's Northprint 2005 exhibition, the 125 exhibitors were said to be in buoyant mood as the show delivered 4,200 visitors.

Show organiser IIR Exhibitions, said that currently unaudited attendance was 20 per cent more than the previous event in 2003, with many of the visitors in serious buying mode.

Gary Wilkinson, Heidelberg's sales manager, said: "We were literally run off our feet at what was a successful show for us.

There is a high level of interest in how companies can drive inefficiencies out of their business and that was the primary focus for us at the show." Paul Randall, the UK marketing manager for Hewlett Packard, added: "This year's Northprint had a real buzz and was a very strong and productive show that saw sales of two HP Indigo 5000s.

IIR has done a great job and reinvigorated the whole exhibition calendar.

Their management and initiatives have refocused people's interest in to this show, which was the perfect venue to meet customers from the mainstream commercial print market." IIR said that many companies were doing brisk business over the three days of the show.

Morgana and Duplo International both expected to exceed GBP 250,000 worth of new business, whilst Xeikon reported that it achieved GBP 600,000 in orders taken at the show.

The organiser introduced new marketing, format and content initiatives to the show that it said were welcomed by exhibitors and visitors alike.

IIR Exhibitions managing director, Nicky Mason, commented: "Northprint has all the ingredients that make a great event - good location, good timing, and great exhibitors.

It's a real networking show where as much work is done after hours as during the day." She added that this year's event attracted a broad cross section of pre-media firms, printers, print buyers and publishers from all over the UK.

Highlights among the full range of printing technology on show included numerous UK firsts with particular interest generated by digital printing, finishing and processless technologies.

IIR's event manager, Gordon Kirk, said: "Northprint is not a show where people come to look at what is on the horizon five-10 years from now, it is an event where companies come to evaluate real products and make immediate investments.

It is perfectly timed between Drupa and Ipex and the high level of visitors from all over the country bear this out." Northprint will return to Harrogate in the Spring 2007, confirmed IIR.
