Digital Printers Give University Value
For Money
Seven previous digital printers have been replaced by a variety of systems from Oce at the University of Paisley in Scotland to increase efficiency and productivity.
The Oce machines were chosen to provide greater digital print capability across the university's two campuses, and which will operate within the printing services department, where they are also anticipated to provide cost savings The department has replaced its old machines with three Oce Varioprint 2110s, two Varioprint 2060s, an Oce CPS 800 high volume colour printer and a CS230 colour printer, together with a range of on-line finishing equipment

The hardware is controlled by Oce's Docworks Pro software.
Under the old system printing services at the Paisley campus reproduced print electronically and via hard copy.
At the Ayr campus the operators reproduced documents from hard copy only, which was labour intensive and unproductive.
By taking a systematic approach with Oce equipment and support, primarily through the introduction of Docworks, jobs can now be submitted and managed electronically, maximising resources and producing each job on the most appropriate piece of equipment, said Oce.
Margaret Leggat, printing services manager at the University of Paisley, said: "We evaluated a number of alternatives before making a decision on a print system.
It was important for us to contract a supplier through the Higher Education Institution National Agreement, which defines standards across universities and represents the best value with no commitment to term on hardware products." She added: "Oce satisfied this requirement and we felt its system was best suited to our volumes and usage, as well as consistent, quality output.
Oce equipment is also used in all the universities in Scotland, which demonstrates a proven record of accomplishment in this sector.
Now fully installed, we aim to make maximum use of Oce's equipment in our new, purpose-built print room.
We have developed a print strategy to encourage departments around the university to fully utilise the central print resource, which offers them best value for money and means individuals can focus on their own core activities." Peter McCartin, Oce UK's higher education institution national manager, said: "Everyone has worked hard to ensure the equipment is installed successfully and the staff are trained appropriately.
The department is already seeing the benefits of Docworks in particular, and we look forward to continue working with the team to add value to the print function.".
