Oce Showcases Environmental Printing Credentials
Oce has showcased to 4,800 public sector procurement professionals a number of green technologies that will help reduce the environmental impact of printing for their print operations
The company, which has one of the most extensive environmentally certified product ranges in the industry, displayed the green technologies at Procurement Solutions 2007.
The flagship product was the Oce VarioPrint 6250 high-speed, cut sheet printer, with the ability to simultaneously print on both sides of a sheet of paper.
The company also spotlighted the Oce TCS500 wide format printer and the new Oce CS240 multi-functional office device.
These products encapsulated some of Oce's most effective environmentally friendly solutions, such as its CopyPress technology, which uses up to 50 percent less energy than competing systems on the market.
The company also set an example on waste reduction by having no printed marketing materials available on the exhibition stand.
Instead, specific information was sent directly to visitors from its Oce Business Services site in Fords, Warley, Essex.
Some other environmental highlights of the machines displayed are that the air that comes out of the VarioPrint 6250 is cleaner than the average air conditioning unit.
The TCS500 has low energy consumption and uses recycled ink cartridges.
The system also has a broad capability, which means that it can easily do the job of two or three separate machines.
The CS240 is an example of a non-OEM product that Oce selected based on its environmental credentials, particularly the fact it is made from 80 percent recycled plastic.
Ed Hudson, Oce UK's marketing manager, said: "The environment is a key consideration when we design our products, from virtually ozone free emissions, low fine-dust emissions, lower fusing temperatures and reduced power consumption, along with our mailbox technology for the reduction of wasted prints".
"All these elements have become an important consideration for both the public and private sector, and therefore we feel it is important we help them reduce the overall impact of printing".
"The greener solutions that we provide go 'beyond the ordinary' and often have the added benefit of reduced costs - environmental and monetary".
"As we are the only European based manufacturer of digital printing equipment, we have a lower carbon footprint to get our products to the customer".
"In addition, we were the first company to make all our core products compliant with the RoHS Directive, which restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment".
Paul Timmins, procurement officer, Staffordshire County Council, said, "Oce appears to have put significant effort into developing a range of high quality products whilst considering the impact on the environment".
"The company has developed unique technologies, such as CopyPress, to help reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint of users, and considers recyclable materials, where possible, to further reduce the impact of printing on the environment".
"This is the sort of responsible approach that public sector bodies need from suppliers to help meet stringent environmental targets.".
