On-demand book printing prospers with digital

An Oce Printing Systems product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Dec 17, 2008

A booming order book for CPI Antony Rowe in on-demand book printing has led to an investment in a fourth Oce Varioprint 6250 system.

The Oce presses at the Eastbourne (UK) site are helping to further sharpen productivity and quality and complement existing cut-sheet printers.

Oce's Prisma software control systems are also providing a common platform for the production control of all digital presses.

CPI Antony Rowe has also added in-line folders, allowing better paper handling and presentation prior to binding.

The further investment at the printing plant in Eastbourne follows the successful installation of three other Oce Varioprint 6250s in the last 18 months.

All the presses are being run for 24 hours, five days-a-week for on-demand book printing.

"The Oce Varioprint 6250 is a fast, efficient and productive machine," says Martin Collyer, CPI Antony Rowe's general manager at Eastbourne.

"It has been running exceptionally well and has been producing books on a par with litho quality.

All our operators have been very pleased with its performance, and our growing numbers of customers are delighted with the results as well.

CPI Antony Rowe, which is part of the CPI Group, the world's largest mono book printer, has found other advantages in the Oce installations.

These include low-temperature fusing, which produces books without paper curl, the large-sheet high capacity and the simplicity of the Oce Varioprint 6250's paper path, optimising efficiency.

Steve Wilson, Oce UK 's director of production printing, says: "We've been overwhelmed by the sustained interest in the Oce VarioPrint 6250 and delighted that the quality of book production is now comparable to litho quality, as CPI Antony Rowe acknowledge.

He adds: "These new presses are setting new standards for cut-sheet production printing in terms of production and quality.

Mike Taylor, CPI UK's Chief Executive, comments: "Going forward, we are looking forward to working in partnership with Oce as part of our future strategy.
