Software With In-RIP Imposition For Digital Print
One Vision has introduced a new version of Speedflow Impose 2.2, its imposition software for commercial and digital print.
The new generation software is said to provide the ability to control the amount of ink or toner used in the production process, automatic control of rich black and extended support for PDF standards like Ghent PDF Workgroup, Pass4press (UK) and Austrian Onorm.
Neil McLennan from Scottish Provincial Press, one of the first users of Asura 6.5, said: "The major benefit of Asura 6.5 is that it will reduce excess TAC on advertising which has normally been supplied for sheet fed presses and does not reproduce well on 45gsm newsprint.
Also, the configuration of the new features is very easy and means that we don't have to play around with ICC profiling to change images, which very often resulted in unsatisfactory results.

PDF Workflow Software For HP Indigo Presses
Onevision Software will be offering its Speedflow product range to HP Indigo digital colour press users to make the production process more secure and cost effective.
The tests we have run so far not only made the advertising look crisper, but it has also reduced the fan out on press, which will make our press room manager very happy.
As well as all associated benefits with controlling TAC, we also estimate that it should reduce our spend on ink by about 10 per cent, which is a very nice saving to have." One Vision said that the focus of the new generation of Asura Pro, Asura and Solvero is in the enhanced colour control.
The new options - automatic TAC identification and reduction, rich black removal and enhanced automatic grey detection - can be implemented without special colour management skills or software and can increase the quality of printing enormously, especially for images.
Costs for ink and toner are said to be reduced by up to double-digit percentage rates.
Thanks to enhanced TAC detection, Asura Pro and Asura now allow customers to automatically detect if the ink coverage might cause a problem during printing, whilst ignoring small areas that will not be problematic, such as crop marks.
Once a problem has been identified customers then have the option to apply a TAC reduction.
If a correction is enabled the software reduces the amount of ink in the areas that are over TAC, but only affects those areas, it does not touch the rest of the image or page said One Vision.
Therefore, customers can control the amount of ink being used without actually changing the colour of an image or element.
That is not possible with transfer curves or with colour management technology (like ICC profiles), as those always affect a whole page, added the company.
With Solvero, users are said to be able to preview the page and view the elements that are over TAC enabling them to make subjective decisions before solving the problem.
Asura Pro, Asura and Solvero are also now said to offer the possibility to transfer rich black in to pure black and the automatic grey detection has been enhanced for all three products.
One Vision added that Windows applications often construct grey from red, green and blue instead of CMYK or black.
The enhanced grey detection in Asura Pro 6.5, Asura 6.5 and Solvero 6.5 now allows - next to the conversion of RGB text and graphics - the detection and conversion of Lab data in greyscales.
Additionally pictures can now also be processed and in CMYK colours and images empty channels can be identified and eliminated.
One Vision said it has agreed with leading associations such as the Ghent PDF Workgroup, PPA UK (pass4press version 5) as well as VFG and VOZ (Onorm A 1503) to specific queue settings in the software that correspond to their respective requirements and that way, it is now possible for users to adapt incoming PDF, EPS and PostScript files to conform to the particular specifications.
One Vision said it has also extended the functions for individual adaptations of output formats and the new version of Asura Pro, Asura and Solvero allow additional fine tuning of output formats in case of older output devices.
