With Printnet, MAN Roland and its subsidiary, PPI Media, said they offer an integrated production management system for all newspaper and semi-commercial productions As an open and modular workflow system, Printnet networks all systems and production processes in publishing and printing companies, creating a workflow from advertisement order to printing, said Onevision

All work steps in sales, pre-press, press and post-press are automatically controlled by Printnet and can be monitored step by step in real time.

The target is the improved utilisation of the applied systems, coupled with maximum production security along the entire newspaper production, added the company.

Adman, the printnet advertisement production system, is used to incorporate the advertisement production in to the Printnet newspaper workflow.

Open interfaces enable the user to switch directly from the advertisement booking system to the production system and vice versa, said One Vision.

That can be done from any workplace.

It is said to allow flexible, efficient and secure production of semi-display and lineage advertisements by integrating standard design editors such as VIandVA Editor and Page One, for instance and display advertisements through DTP integration with QuarkXPress and Indesign.

Asura Pro ensures automated correction of the customer's file quality.

In the Prepress area, Printnet has integrated a production step that other management information system (MIS) vendors hesitate to touch, in One Vision's opinion.

That is the automated verification and control of the customer's file quality and its automated correction and optimisation.

Being aware about the costs and wasted time created by incorrect customer files, Printnet integrated the system in terms of ensuring production security with automated file control, correction and optimisation - One Vision's Asura Pro.

Taking the feedback of pre-press managers from newspapers on all five continents, One Vision's software package for high-volume production is beleived by the company to be the leading automated software for hotfolder-based control, correction and optimisation of files in PDF, PostScript or EPS format, offering control over automated document optimisation.

Asura Pro is claimed to automatically examine file contents, corrects errors on the fly and provide a detailed log report for each document.

Aware of growing customer demand for seamless integrated workflows, One Vision said it designed Asura Pro to deploy its JDFnet technology and capitalise on job ticket standards, such as the Job Definition Format (JDF) or XML - depending on the customer's preference.

As soon as an advertisement has been entered in the booking system, Adman automatically creates a digital job folder in which all the corresponding files are stored and managed.

As well as the customer's details the booking also contains the information about the size of the advertisement, fonts and colour information such as CMYK, with or without spot colour.

Electronically delivered advertisements are automatically assigned to orders, after which they undergo pre-flight checking.

Incorrect formats, colours and fonts from the advertising building department are detected.

An Asura Pro job ticket is created with the request to correct the errors.

For example, if the assumed size of an advertisement is 50mm x 80mm and it should be mono.

The pre-flight check detects wrong size (45mm x 75mm) and an additional spot colour.

The JDF job ticket demands to resize the advertisement to the booked size and delete the spot colour respectively convert it, in that case, in to black.

Additionally, whilst creating the production file, no matter whether in PDF, EPS or PostScript format, the whole file is generated in a consistent code, which is adapted to specification of the RIP.

Produced files are administered in the Adman job folders, whilst relevant booking data is returned to the advertisement system for billing.

Adman is also said to automatically transfer released advertisments to the page production system, such as Printnet Propag, and reorganises the design jobs in accordance with the publisher's guidelines.

With that process, Adman and Asura Pro are claimed by the company to ensure that the advertisement order is processed correctly and efficiently.

Operating in the background, the One Vision software is said to not require any manual operation on the data, preventing insecure documents from burdening workflows in print and media production.

An integrated time tracking system in Adman is said to guarantee the timely production of advertisements for each newspaper production.

Finished advertisements are displayed as previews, which are generated directly on the production RIP.

They can be converted to PDF and then automatically sent to the customer by e-mail for review.
