Onevision has released Speedflow Edit 4.0 for Mac OS X and Windows.
Speedflow Edit is powerful software that enables full PDF editing of text, images and vector graphics from a user's desktop computer.
Claimed to be easy to use and to learn, Speedflow Edit places pre-press editing tools in the hands of authorised print production personnel enabling complete control of all data within PDF files to save money, time and effort.
Speedflow Edit is an editing tool designed for use by publishers and organisations that produce all sizes and types of printed materials, including magazines, books and newsletters, amongst other applications.
The software can also benefit advertising agencies that develop and design high volumes of materials for print publication, added Onevision.
The product is part of the Speedflow product family, which was designed by Onevision with attention to the needs of commercial, digital and in-house printers.
Using Speedflow Edit, graphics, images and advertisements in PDF format containing text, vector and raster elements can be altered as needed without having to obtain and access the original document or use the original program, said the company.
That is said to streamline the production workflow process.
The standalone software works on its own and complements other pre-press systems from third-party vendors, said Onevision.
With Speedflow Edit, PDF files from any application can be opened, edited and cleanly written as a PDF 1.2 to 1.6, including PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 standards, regardless of the original version.
Onevision added that with Speedflow Edit, PDFs can be imported, edited and exported, giving production personnel and advertisers a reliable CMYK soft proof before the file goes to print.
If users encounter a problem with a file or need to make a change to a colour or font, the file can typically be fixed or altered without the need to return to the original file or software application.
Speedflow Edit also makes it possible to find and correct text, colours and fonts used throughout an advertisement or document, so that production managers can apply universal changes to an entire file.
In addition, Speedflow Edit offers transparency editing and creation tools that serve to solve difficult overprinting and layering problems, claimed Onevision.
Transparencies can be flattened to a single plane for compatibility with systems that are unable to accept PDF files with native transparency.
Siobhain Towell, vice president of marketing and business development at Onevision, said: "As with all of our products, Speedflow Edit 4.0 was based on direct input from our customers, which include the largest newspapers, leading magazines and smaller corporations that produce a variety of printed materials.
With its enhanced functionality, Speedflow Edit provides powerful PDF editing software that allows users to correct files easily and accurately." Speedflow Edit 4.0 supports PDF 1.2 through 1.6 on import and output and supports the creation of PDF/X-1a (2001, 2003) or PDF/X-3 (2002, 2003) files, added Onevision.
