Publishing Expo Sees System To Cut Ink Consumption

An OneVision Software product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Feb 6, 2008

The Publishing Expo in London (UK) will see Onevision Software show its newest product that is claimed to reduce ink consumption by replacing expensive CMY ink with less expensive black (K) ink.

During the show, which will be staged at the Olympia Exhibition Centre from February 13 - 14, Onevision's stand A46 - will also feature Asura and Asura Pro.

The company said that those software products give users the ability to generate colour-optimised, print-ready files in only one production step.

Onevision added that its software is designed to meet the pre-press needs of publishers, commercial and digital printers.

According to the company, publishers benefit from Asura and Asura Pro, which enable the automated conversion of files, including those in the new PDF or XPS formats, in to PostScript, EPS or PDF formats to meet the specific requirements of any existing editorial system.

Font handling, resizing of files to an exact column width, conversion of CMYK in to specific spot colours for duotone printing, for instance, can be automated, which saves time and improves the daily workload.

The company also commented that commercial and digital printers can benefit from the company's Speedflow product range.

Speedflow Check automatically takes PDF, PostScript, EPS and files in unknown formats and generates a controlled, corrected and optimised print-ready PDF.

Speedflow Plus includes ink-saving functions.

Meanwhile, Speedflow Edit enables editing of PDFs and Speedflow Impose is Onevision's JDF-enabled imposition software for PDFs.

The Speedflow product range is completed by Speedflow Cockpit, a pre-press management tool that is said to integrate in to a user's existing software infrastructure.

Siobhain Towell, vice president of marketing at Onevision, commented: "For 10 years, we have been working directly with commercial and digital printers throughout the world to develop software that specifically meets their workflow requirements.

We understand the issues faced daily by our customers and we continue to pay close attention to their needs.

Whilst the sizes and types of their operations may vary, they all face many of the same daily demands and challenges." She added: "Using our software, printers can automate numerous aspects of the pre-press process to save time, money and effort, and most importantly, ensure that print jobs run on time, every time.".
