Digital print specialist CSL Digital Print in Basingstoke (UK) has installed an Optimus 2020 MIS system from Optichrome as part of its development plans.

CSL Digital Print, which is the digital printing arm of CORGI, specialises in producing plastic identification cards that are printed at the site on an HP Indigo digital colour press.

"We produce the ID cards for all CORGI registered gas installers.

However, we've been offering this service to outside companies for a number of years.

Over the coming months we're planning a major push and anticipate that external orders will increase further during 2005.

In preparation for this we needed an MIS system that would generate a wide range of production and management data, which would enable us to quickly identify the most profitable orders, where enquiries have come from over a period of time and which jobs provide the fastest return on ionvestment, for instance.

Although we are already operating an MIS system, the Optimus 2020 system gives us many more benefits," said CSL's print services manager David Hayward.

"For instance, the OCSL modules can be tailored easily to suit individual requirements and obviously we have specific needs in the type of work we handle.

Optimus 2020 is straightforward to operate and is extremely versatile.

OCSL was able to integrate it with the HP Indigo and our existing accounting package without any problem.

In addition to the above well be able to offer customers a much faster turnaround of estimates and answers to enquiries," he added.

CSL Digital Print was formed five years ago and now employs six people who specialise in short run print work, often winning work from other card producers who are geared up for longer runs only said Optichrome.

The Optimus 2020 system, which will be fully on-line in December, incorporates modules covering areas such as estimating, stock control, production scheduling and invoicing.

"We're particularly pleased with this order from CSL Digital because it demonstrates how the versatility of Optimus 2020 allows it to be of great benefit to the emerging digital print market.

We already have customers in the litho, screen, label and packaging areas and we view the digital market as a major new area for MIS," said Optichrome's group managing director Nicolas Bisset.
