Live Production Data Without Using JDF Or JMF
The UK management information system (MIS) supplier, Optimus, has claimed to have moved the boundaries of MIS technology with the launch of Connect.
Optimus managing director, Nicola Bisset, said: "The ethos behind Quicksmart is to enable faster progress of work throughout the factory so there are even higher levels of automation, which allow work-in-progress functions, such as job tracking, pricing and invoicing to be carried out very quickly.
With run lengths becoming ever shorter and profit margins on jobs smaller, today's printer has to be able to handle a huge number of orders every shift.
Quicksmart has been designed to help get those jobs through each department quickly and at the minimum of cost." Pinders provides a selection of services based around a line-up of digital printing equipment, which ranges from HP Indigo to wide-format Vutek inkjet machines, allowing it to produce everything from a business card to a building wrap.
The company was founded in 1938 by the grandfather of the current joint managing director, David Whiteway.
Whiteway commented: "We're currently using traditional hard copy methods for job tickets, for instance, and so we have taken the opportunity created by installing the latest MIS technology to totally evaluate how we process and control work in the factory.
This exercise in itself will improve efficiency but we're confident that the Optimus 2020 MIS system will play a significant part in helping us provide a better service to customers and in making the business more profitable." With a completely digital output Pinders said it handles a huge number of jobs each day and that volume is set to increase when a planned 13,500 square foot extension to the Sheffield (UK) premises is completed.
The company employs more than 40 people between the main site and a satellite shop, also in the city.
Customers are mainly based in Yorkshire and Derbyshire and include leading corporations such as the BBC and FCUK.
David Whiteway explained: "We really needed a method of providing management with up-to-the-minute and accurate production data that will enable the most cost efficient use of equipment and employees.
We spent a long time researching the MIS market and Optimus came out ahead of all the other suppliers.
Optimus 2020 is straight forward to use and extremely flexible, whilst Optimus itself has been very helpful in working with us to achieve what we require." Price List Estimating is a new estimating interface that has been developed to cater for the speed, changes and demands of a modern digital environment said Optimus.
The interface is claimed to enable the fast creation of estimates and jobs for any type of product, whilst at the same time providing production route choices.
The Price List Estimating software, in combination with Optimus QS, will facilitate integration with a host of digital equipment, added the company.
The Estimating Pro Plus module is said to be able to model real production processes to give accurate estimates of internal and external costs and produce written quotation letters quickly.
The quick entry facility enables the creation of estimates with minimal input or detailed entry.
