OTM is poised to print the first live job at its digital print and transactional mail division following a GBP1m investment in two Xerox IGen3 printing machines.

OTM managing director Kris Prashad said the company, which is a subsidiary of the Opus Trust Group, will begin production on the devices at its Leicester (UK) site by the end of July after a period of what he described as intensive training.

Prashad commented: "We were in direct mail and three years ago invested in the transactional mail market.

Where we see the next good opportunity is in the digital printing market because there is significant opportunity to add value." The Xerox devices are part of a wider investment at OTM that includes bookletmaking and guillotines.

OTM is looking to upgrade to in-line finishing equipment from Xerox when it is introduced in the next three months.

The company has developed its own web-based personalisation software, O42, which is being used in campaigns by the likes of utility provider Npower.

Car hire company Avis is claimed to have increased response rates from two per cent to eight per cent after including marketing messages on customer statements with OTM.

To accommodate the IGen3 printers, OTM has separated its direct mail business to a location in Swindon.

Prashad explained: "Our strategy is to create two centres of excellence.

In Leicester, we will focus on the high added value end of the print and transactional mail business.

At the same time, we will use our skilled workforce in Swindon to meet the demands of the direct marketing and fulfilment markets." OTM also runs six IBM Infoprint 4000 web-fed printers and Xerox Manhattan cut sheet devices.

Prashad said the company is extending its range in to electronic billing, archiving and retrieval as a result of growth at the company's print management business.

OTM's turnover is expected to hit GBP2.5m this year and is forecast to rise 50 per cent in 2006.
