OTM's O42 web-based marketing tool, which allows personalised messages to be printed on bills and statements, has won the UK mail technology award.

OTM's O42 web-based marketing tool, which allows personalised messages to be printed on bills and statements, has won the UK mail technology award.

OTM beat off competition from Pitney Bowes, Education Direct and Moving Technologies to take the award.

O42 is said to harnesses the power of 'critical mail' - the mail that organisations must send to their customers - which typically includes bills, statements, order confirmations and legislative correspondence.

Messages can be added to those communications as part of the printing process, using the available white space on the documents.

The messages can be personalised as necessary, segmented down to particular groups, or even specifically to one individual, said OTM.

O42 is claimed to be easy to use.

Accessible from any web-linked PC, the data can be manipulated with different messages being attached to different customer groups and the data file being sent electronically to OTM's printing and distribution operation.

Using O42, a personalised message can be printed on every statement or bill and go to market within 48 hours, claimed the company.

OTM initially trialled the product with Avis and it is now used by a number of other organisations, including Npower.

In the trials, Avis found the response rate to marketing communications jumped from three per cent to 10 per cent and the company is now rolling out O42 across Europe.

Sarah Orchard, customer marketing manager of Avis Europe, said: "Marketing on bills is not only more cost-effective but we know how the message has been communicated.

It enables us to build longer-term customer loyalty through adding value to the Avis car rental experience." O42, already a recipient of a new product award at The International Direct Marketing Fair, has also been nominated for the information management awards 2004, to be announced in December.
