Pindar Graphics has won a three-year contract from global cosmetics and perfumery brand Avon to print the company's A5 stitched catalogue in the UK.

The Scarborough (UK) printer, which has had a long-standing relationship with Avon, said it had win the deal against significant international competition.

The new contract comes at the end of a six-month tendering process.

To secure the deal, Pindar said that its engineers undertook modifications to increase press speeds.

Closed loop colour has also been retrofitted on the long grain presses to reduce paper waste and ensure higher quality of colour consistency throughout the run, added the company.

Avon has 170,000 sales representatives that distribute an estimated 3.5 million Avon catalogues every three weeks to households across the UK.

James Cameron, head of print production at Avon, said: "At Avon we are delighted that Pindar has again been successful in the tender for our brochure.

It further cements an already excellent working relationship and reflects the superior customer service that we have received over the past four years.

The contributions and proactive approach of Pindar's customer service team and technical support have helped us improve our working practices and technical knowledge, which along with developing a culture of continuous improvement has enhanced our brochure as a whole." Andrew Dalton, group chief executive at Pindar Graphics, explained: "Avon has been an important customer for more than five years and we're delighted the company has chosen to cement our relationship further with this latest endorsement.

Our impeccable quality and service record swung the contract in our favour, as well as our continued investment in new technology.

Avon's growing portfolio of products means its brochures often contain up to 220 pages and with around 80 fragrances, our skills in this dynamic area can be deployed with great effect." He added: "We're committed to investing in new technology, most recently installing a new GBP7 million Lithoman III printing press at our Scarborough head office.

A further GBP2 million has been invested in infrastructure, including a new chiller system, ink pumping system and after burners, which recycle and reuse warm air, offering substantial environmental benefits as well as robust energy savings.

This scale and nature of investment plays a key part in maintaining and improving the services that we provide to our key customers such as Avon." Founded in 1886, Avon is an international direct seller of beauty and related products, marketing to women in 100 countries through five million independent sales representatives.

The company established operations in the UK in 1959 and is today said to be one of the top three beauty brands in the country.

Pindar said it has a strong reputation in the business-to-business and consumer catalogue markets, working for organisations, such as Arco, Musto and Littlewoods, as well as Avon.
