A Pindar product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 6, 2008

Business worth GBP850,000 has been won by Pindar Graphics in the UK from catalogue and online retailer, Express Gifts.

Pindar's business with Express Gifts has nearly doubled to GBP1.85 million under the new agreement.

Express Gifts is now commissioning Pindar to produce 50 different catalogues, including 12 under the Studio and Ace brands each year, each of which contains 260 pages.

Pindar has had a seven-year relationship with Express Gifts at its Tewkesbury site and as part of the agreement the company will now provide additional catalogue publishing from its Scarborough and Preston locations.

The additional Express Gifts print work will utilise Pindar's MAN Roland Lithoman III short grain web offset press in Scarborough, which is said to offer competitive pricing for customers through waste reduction and greater economy in its use of paper.

According to the company, the dedicated new cover press at the Preston plant will help to ensure that Express Gifts are provided with catalogue covers of a consistently high quality and accuracy, which increases the impact and longevity of each publication.

Andrew Dalton, Pindar's group chief executive officer, said: "Express Gifts operates in an industry where catalogues are crucial to driving their online ordering business, meaning flexibility in the production environment is imperative.

We can offer shorter production lead-times in a cost-effective manner whilst improving the quality of catalogues by using resources across our locations." He added: "Express Gifts became a Pindar customer when we acquired the Cooper Clegg business at Tewkesbury.

The company is now benefiting from Pindar's wider print capabilities in Scarborough and Preston, which has enabled us to significantly grow the business with the customer.

Each of our sites has unique selling propositions for customers and Express Gifts, along with a number of other clients, will benefit from concurrently utilising the resources we possess across our UK sites." Express Gifts sells a range of products, including leisurewear, electrical goods, household products, textiles, bedding, furniture, nursery products, gifts and greeting cards, through its catalogues in print and online.

The business has seen online ordering double to 40 per cent in the last three years, which is business driven through its printed catalogues.
