Perfectproof yesterday released a new update to its colour proofing and printing software RIP - Proofmaster v2.1.

Perfectproof yesterday released a new update to its colour proofing and printing software RIP - Proofmaster v2.1.

It is said to offer a completely new technology for dealing with high-end workflows, spot colours and multi-channel print jobs.

Existing Proofmaster users can obtain a free upgrade via the product's built-in update function.

The software's colour setup capabilities are said to allow the user to match high-end colour managed and classic workflows.

Bart Fret, software product manager at Perfectproof Europe, said: "When proofing in a high-end workflow, it is important to be able to honour embedded or set default source profiles and rendering intents for each CMYK, RGB and gray element.

The advanced colour options can be set to mirror the colour management settings of the production workflow, ensuring accurate simulation of the on-press result." The use of the open CxF colour library format, allows the set-up and exchange of customised spot colour definitions between pre-press applications.

A transfer curve tool allows the dot gain to be changed, whilst the opacity can be modified, changing the transparency in relation to any other colours that sit underneath.

Those improvements guarantee a 100 per cent accurate calculation of spot colours, claimed Perfectproof.

Proofmaster v2.1 will process multi-colour DCS2.0, DeviceN and composite files containing duotones.

Bart Fret added: "As more multi-colour output devices become available, the use of their wider colour gamut needs to be fully exploited.

The new software will correctly handle printer and reference profiles with up to 24 colour channels." Drivers for the multicolour (CMYK+n) Canon i9950 and i9900 printers are included in the new release.

Epson 4800/7800/9800 drivers offering ink loading control also come with the software, together with a range of ICC profiles for proofing and photo printing on a variety of media.

In the company's opinion, the newly added features make Proofmaster one of the most complete ISO-certifiable products in the industry, offering Contone/1-bit proofing and photo printing, multiplatform usage on Mac and PC, a variety of file formats (PDF/X, PostScript and native file formats) next to a range of production tools, soft-proofing and workflow automation.

The latest release of the Proofmaster software RIP is available as a demonstration version, or free upgrade for all existing Proofmaster Folio, Mezzo, Grande and Dalmatian v2.x users from Proofmaster's website.
