Presstek's DI Equipped Presses To Fore At Drupa
Presstek manufacturer and marketer of digital imaging systems is showcasing its array of Profire enabled DI presses at Drupa 2004.
Presstek manufacturer and marketer of digital imaging systems is showcasing its array of Profire enabled DI presses at Drupa 2004.
Direct imaging (DI) presses combine the convenience of digital printing with the quality and economic benefits of offset printing, which is increasingly important because of today's increasing market demands for shorter runs of high quality colour printing, the company believes.
Presstek claimed that at Drupa it is delivering the most significant innovation to direct imaging presses since the inception of digital offset technology.
Its new Profire Excel imaging combined with the company's new Profire digital media generates a 16-micron laser spot that enables 300 lines per inch (120 lines per centimetre) output, while supporting FM (stochastic), AM (conventional), and hybrid screening options, said the company.
The method is claimed to produce far less waste than conventional offset printing processes.
Profire Excel equipped DI presses change the competitive dynamics for offset printing by raising quality standards and lowering the cost of market entry, whilst their ease of use makes them ideal for digital printers who wish to add offset printing to their portfolio of services, said Presstek.
The new entry level DI press combines Profire Excel quality with a set of features designed to satisfy printers with lower production requirements.
The company believes the press would broaden the market for DI technology, and is scheduled to be available during the second half of 2004 from several of Presstek's OEM partners.
The press is currently available from Ryobi, KBA, and KPG.
The Profire Excel has been applied to the Ryobi 3404X-DI and Ryobi also offers a UV version of the press for the label and packaging markets.
The machine is on display at Ryobi's Drupa stand (16C03).
The KBA 46 Karat Plus is a result of a cooperative development effort between Ryobi, Presstek and KBA, based on the needs of KBA customers.
The press features stochastic screening, a 300-line screen and Aniva inks and it is provided as an entry-level machine.
The 46 Karat Plus is said to be suited to printers with existing digital devices from Xerox, Xeikon and HP.
It is featured on KBA's Drupa stand in Hall 16 as well as on Presstek's stand (9B56).
The new KPG Directpress 5634 DI system combines Profire Excel imaging quality, with the simplicity and automation of a DI Press.
The press incorporates KPG's new Directworks workflow.
Directworks is claimed to enable colour management across a variety of technologies to deliver more accurate and consistent colour regardless of the output device in use.
It streamlines operations by automating pre-flight, colour correction, trapping, imposition, approval and ripping.
KPG is demonstrating the Directpress on its stand (5D24).
At Drupa, Heidelberg is introducing its new Prospot technology, bringing better print quality to the Heidelberg Quickmaster DI Pro.
This imaging system, designed and manufactured by Presstek, combined with Presstek Pearldry Plus plates, is claimed to bring higher quality, improved profitability and new levels of productivity to Quickmaster DI Pro users.
Presstek said it has listened carefully to its end-user customers, and manufacturing and distribution partners, who have asked for more affordable, higher quality imaging technology.
The result is Profire Excel imaging and Profire Digital Media that have made possible the links with the Ryobi 3404X-DI, 46 Karat Plus, and KPG Directpress 5634 DI.
