Presstek has sold the first of its Dimension 400 CTP systems to Kingdom Printers in Eire through its dealer Consort.

Presstek has sold the first of its Dimension 400 CTP systems to Kingdom Printers in Eire through its dealer Consort.

The system is already in operation.

Kingdom Printers has moved into CTP for the first time and chose a chemistry-free option.

The commercial printer serves the whole of Ireland producing books, brochures and promotional items.

With 18 staff, Kingdom Printers has been revolutionised overnight from making plates from film to full computer-to-plate said Presstek.

Commented Kingdom managing director Bernie Keane: "There are huge time savings.

It means that several members of staff can actually make plates so it increases production.

There is no mess, there are no chemicals and there is no processor.

We have been able to restructure some of the jobs for our staff.

One young member of staff who has been with us almost four years as a plate-maker is now diversifying into other fields of work as well as plate-making.

It has opened up opportunities for us all.

David Ryan at Consort added: "This is our first year working with Presstek and its innovative technology.

There has been a lot of interest.

We know this sale to Kingdom Printers will be the first of many in Ireland.

Customers looking at the option of chemistry-free plate making are recognising the advantages of a clean environment and the cost savings.

We can demonstrate that going computer-to-plate with Presstek technology can be an easy transition, resulting in increased productivity and a high quality product," Keane continued: "This was a natural step forward but as it is our first investment into CTP it was a big step.

We looked at several different machines but the Dimension 400 won hands down.

This technology has to be the future.

It is as simple to use as a photo-copier.

The Anthem plates are put in and then taken out.

The footprint of the machine is very neat and fits into a small area.

It is so easy to maintain a clean environment." Run lengths at Kingdom can be 1,000 or 100,000.

Using the Anthem plate, the company makes B2 and B3 plates for its Sakurai press and Kingdom has seen a marked increase in quality of plates and speed of production.

The CiP3 software on the Dimension system is compatible to the press.

Time for make-readies has been reduced already by approximately 25 per cent commented Presstek.

As Keane concluded: "The Dimension gives us perfect registration on the plate and has cut down our wastage overall.

The machine is absolutely wonderful.

We made the right decision and are delighted with our choice.

Presstek is proving to be the perfect technology partner.".
