Presstek has completed the first European installation of its new generation Dimension 450 Excel at Skipnes Trykkeri in Norway.

Presstek has completed the first European installation of its new generation Dimension 450 Excel at Skipnes Trykkeri in Norway.

The Dimension 450 Excel, a four-page platemaking system supporting up to a claimed 17 plates per hour, features the Presstek Profire Excel imaging technology that debuted at Drupa 04.

Ferag Norge, Presstek's distributor in Norway installed the Dimension 450 at Skipness Trykkeri.

Aage Skar, the production manager at Skipnes Trykkeri, based his purchasing decision on the Dimension 450 Excel's environmentally friendly platemaking capability as well as the ease-of-use in operation.

He commented: "We researched the CTP systems available on the market but none compared to the Presstek system.

In Norway, environmental regulations are extremely strict and you pay the same amount to get rid of the chemical waste as to purchase the chemicals.

We were convinced by the system's chemistry-free processing." Skar said that he is extremely pleased with the quality produced by the Dimension450 Excel plates: "The sharpness of the dots has increased enormously and we noticed less dot gain." Roald Skipnes, the general manager at Skipnes Trykkeri, concurred: "The Presstek plates were put to the test right after installation.

We had to produce a very urgent job of over 80,000 copies.

The quality was excellent and the operation flawless - our new chemistry-free plates passed the test with flying colors." The Dimension Excel range features a new 'load ahead' capability, that is said to allow the operator to pre-stage a plate while the machine is imaging.

When imaging is completed, the current plate is sent to either a stacker or a conveyor-washer-stacker system, and the next plate is loaded from the pre-stage area.

Those enhancements enable a more streamlined workflow and reduce the need for operator monitoring said Presstek.

Roald Skipnes added: "We market ourselves as a chemistry-free environment, while delivering a very high level of quality and service.

It's a win-win situation, because our investment will also result in considerable cost savings.

The environment is important for us and for our customers, Skipnes Trykkeri is proud to be a 'green company'.".
