Presstek has installed a semi-automatic Dimension425 Excel Computer-to-Plate (CTP) system using the company's chemistry-free Anthem plates at Salinger and Thuy in Ansbach (Germany).
The system was installed by print equipment dealer Grafitek .
Salinger and Thuy chose Presstek for a variety of reasons.
As managing partner Christian Thuy explained: "We were always impressed with Presstek as market leader and after a demonstration at Grafitek, we knew that Presstek was the way to go.
The new system has let us eliminate numerous processing steps, streamline our workflow and save time and money.
The plates provide very high print quality, so we can easily go up to a 120 lines per centimetre screen and we'll soon be able to offer our customers prints with frequency-modulated screening.
The plate setter operates so reliably and stably that we can now launch colour management." The Dimension425 Excel produces plate sizes of up to 680mm x 780mm with a maximum image size of 640mm x 768mm.
It offers a claimed maximum resolution of 2,540 dots per inch (dpi) and produces up to 11 printing plates per hour.
The Dimension systems are designed to work together with Presstek thermal plates, such as the chemistry-free Anthem or the process-free Applause.
Summing up the benefits, Thuy noted: "Since converting to CTP and the Presstek system, we've cut costs by up to 60 per cent, so we can be significantly more competitive, even though the CTP plates are more expensive than conventional offset plates.
Other positive benefits include environmental friendliness, the elimination of disposal costs and considerably less maintenance requirement.
Now, we can't even imagine an alternative." Ernst Salinger established Druckerei Salinger and Thuy in his garage in 1956 as a classic one-man operation.
After many years in letterpress printing, the small company switched in 1970 to offset, since when it has undergone continuous expansion.
After a 1989 restructure, Renate Thuy and Stefan Salinger became executive managers and in 1995 the company invested in two new Heidelberg offset presses.
Salinger expanded again in 2001 by adding a four-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster 52.
Christian Thuy joined the team as general manager in 2005.
As well as its core printing functions, the company is also active in continuous printing, has a pre-press department and all the key finishing equipment for cutting, folding, collating and stitching.
