Presstek and EFI have entered in to an alliance to deliver a suite of products scaled for smaller quick, commercial and in-plant printers, as well as the franchise print market.

The first product in the suite is Presstek's Facet RIP, which is on display at Print '05.

The Facet RIP, sold and supported exclusively by A B Dick, is an affordable, high performance digital front-end that has been developed for operation with all Presstek-branded and A B Dick-branded digital output devices, including DI presses and Dimension, Vector TX52 and DPM platesetters.

Since Facet is built on EFI's Fiery technology it is controlled via the Command Workstation interface.

That is the same interface in use by Fiery RIPs around the world.

The technology is claimed to offer the operator the ability to view and control multiple Fiery-based RIPs, including Facet, from remote locations.

A customer can move a job from one device to another from Command Workstation.

With the click of a mouse, customers can output 10 copies on their digital toner device and 5,000 copies from their DI press without ever going back to their pre-press computers, delivering a hybrid offset and digital workflow, claimed the company.

Facet provides the foundation for adding workflow modules and business management to the operations of small commercial printers, including easy integration with EFI Print managment information systems (MIS) such as Printsmith.
