Presstek's DI Equipped Presses To Fore At Drupa
Presstek manufacturer and marketer of digital imaging systems is showcasing its array of Profire enabled DI presses at Drupa 2004.
An A3 portrait format four-color DI press, the 46 Karat Plus is designed for short to medium run colour print.
Producing up to a claimed 14,000 A4 sheets an hour and with an imaging and make-ready time of 10 minutes per job, the press is claimed to fill the gap between the toner and traditional offset markets by combining the convenience of digital with the quality and versatility of offset.
The 46 Karat Plus's print quality is made possible by the incorporation of Presstek's Profire Excel imaging.

More Sales For Small Printers' Chemistry-Free CTP
Presstek has sold three Dimension Excel CTP systems to Behrends + Spranger GmbH.
Profire Excel uses a 16-micron laser spot at 2,540 dots per inch (dpi), supports up to 300 lines per inch (lpi).
or 120 lines per centimetre AM (conventional), FM (stochastic) screening and it can work with Presstek's Profire digital media.
All four plates are imaged simultaneously in 4.5 minutes, claimed Presstek.
Presstek's Profire digital media is imaged without chemicals, saving on the cost and disposal of chemistry.
With its automation, consistent quality, compact design and operator convenience, the 46 Karat Plus will appeal to organisations with a demand for high quality short run colour print, as well as the traditional offset printer, who cannot compete successfully for short run work using large format presses, added the company.
The Harlequin-based Momentum RIP is compatible with Postscript Level 3 and PDF 1.5 specifications and is based on Harlequin's most current RIP release.
Momentum RIP 7.0 supports all Presstek and A B Dick branded output systems including DPM, Vector and Dimension CTP, as well as Presstek-enabled DI presses.
Momentum is compatible with applications that generate PDF and PDF/X files, handling those files natively for increased efficiency.
It offers in-RIP trapping with MtrapPro and supports industry-standard ICC profiles with Colorpro.
The Presstek Vector TX52 with Freedom chemistry-free plates is said to be the first commercial product that capitalises on the strengths of the new integrated Presstek organisation, said the company.
The company believes that the chemistry-free platesetter provides the small format (52cm and under) printer with an affordable metal platemaker for higher productivity, cleaner operation and lower production costs.
After imaging, Freedom plates are automatically cleaned with water in the Vector TX52's integrated plate washer.
Freedom plates are said to require no baking, special cleaning fluids, or gumming, resulting in less waste material and a more environmentally friendly print shop.
The plates are suitable for short-run printing with run lengths up to 25,000, added Presstek.
The Dimension Excel series provides the reliability, versatility, speed and quality that printers, especially mid-size and smaller shops, require from their CTP investments.
Dimension Excel platesetters are available in two-page and four-page formats that can be configured as a standard (Dimension 225 and 425) or as a high production (Dimension 250 and 450) platemaker.
Each has a small footprint and can work with Presstek chemistry-free Anthem and process-free Applause plates.
At Digital Print World, Presstek will be demonstrating the Dimension 450 Excel.
Presstek's Anthem thermal plates are claimed to provide chemistry-free CTP and exceptional print performance.
Anthem is a 'drop-in product' with ink and water latitude, compatible with a range of press chemistry and supporting run lengths of up to 100,000.
After imaging, only cleaning with water is required and there is no baking or gumming and no chemical processing.
With Applause, Presstek's process-free thermal printing plate users image and print.
According to the company, unlike other digital plate products, Applause requires no intermediate steps between imaging and printing.
After imaging Applause plates can be put on the press to start printing, without gumming, baking, processing, or special handling.
Quen Baum, the managing director of Presstek Europe commented: "Presstek has just completed a highly successful Print '05 show in Chicago.
