As part of its continued programme of investment, Premier Print in Bournemouth (UK) has taken another major step forward with a Presstek DI press.
The A3 size portrait format four-colour DI press is designed for short to medium run colour print applications.
It is said to be capable of producing up to 14,000 A4 sheets an hour with a complete imaging and make-ready time of 10 minutes per job.
Peter Moritzen, who runs Premier Print with his partner Graham Vatcher, said: "This latest investment will be fundamental in helping us to diversify in to new markets, including working with trade customers, who want us to do short run, fast turn-round, high quality work.
There are a lot of printers in the Bournemouth area with a mix of small offset presses and digital copiers, all doing what we were doing.
This meant that winning work was becoming extremely competitive and consequently very price sensitive." He commented that Premier Print needed to take the lead in differentiating itself so that ith could pursue additional markets.
Moritzen explained: "Our decision to move away from the high street is prompted by the purchase of the new press.
We recognised that to provide a quality service to our customers, we have to create a workspace that allows efficient workflow." As runs are getting shorter and the delivery times quicker, Premier Print started looking at DI presses and visited a number of exhibitions.
Moritzen continued: "I decided to replace our A B Dick branded 9995 press and CTP system and invest in an automated Presstek DI press because of its environmental credentials.
We felt that they were important features when promoting our services to an increasingly environmentally aware public and in addition, we have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Presstek, who have always been supportive.
We wanted to remain loyal to the company." Before placing the order, Premier Print asked Presstek to print a couple of production jobs.
"I was particularly impressed with the print quality, which allows up to 300lpi.
The speed and ease of wash-up means that the four colour Presstek DI press is also efficient when running spot colour, so we can enjoy the best of both worlds from a very productive machine," added Moritzen.
