Unlike Kall Kwik's traditional retail franchise operation, Kall Kwik Leeds Pavilion is one of the new style centres, sited on Pavilion Business Park in Leeds.
Peter Morse commented: "We've always focused on winning business from corporates and SMEs and that's where we have been successful.
Despite the fact that we started from scratch six years ago, we have been one of the fastest expanding Kall Kwik franchises in the country.
Four years ago we won the Kall Kwik design award and this year we are the franchisee of the year." The franchise purchased a Hamada 252A1 press with off-press controls and an A B Dick-branded DPM 2508 polyester platesetter two and a half years ago from Presstek.
Morse explained: "We needed the right equipment to enable us to win business from other commercial printers.
As the four colour litho side of our business was expanding fast, we specified a B3 landscape press with good rolling power, which was the main reason for purchasing the Hamada press.
It gives us off-press controls at a sensible price.
It is also ideal for our type of work, which is mainly brochures, prospectuses and marketing material and it has brilliant resolution." He added: "We've had a computer-to-plate system from day one, so we were well versed in being able to produce digital plates but until we installed the DPM 2508 we were restricted to A4 portrait format." Morse submitted a job for the offset print award, which had been designed and printed for client Architecture 2B.
It comprised a folder with 20 inserts illustrating building projects that the practice had designed for the City of Leeds.
Morse commented: "We were able to print this four colour piece of work, which had a lot of solid colour, to a very high standard on our two-colour Hamada press.
This award is a real boost for the team and particularly for our printer, who can produce work of such high quality that we can compete with anybody.".
