Presstek has reported that Grafitalia 2006 fuelled strong sales activity in Italy that has exceeded the company's expectations.

Presstek has reported that Grafitalia 2006 fuelled strong sales activity in Italy that has exceeded the company's expectations During Grafitalia 2006, orders were taken for three DI presses, two Dimension Excel CTP systems, and one Vector TX52

Digraph, Presstek's distributor for the Italian market, is assisting with installations whilst responding to continuing sales enquiries from potential customers, added the company.

Fabrizio Fiorito, Digraph's general manager, said: "The tremendous response at Grafitalia exceeded all of our expectations in terms of sales and lead generation.

Companies are increasingly recognising that Presstek DI presses are the ideal systems to deliver high quality, fast turn-around offset printing with the ease of use of a digital printer - particularly for printers and digital print shops that routinely face tight deadlines." Presstek also reported significant sales activity for its CTP and plate systems.

The company said that Italian print firms are recognising that the machines provide a streamlined workflow in a chemistry-free environment, thereby reducing printing cycle time and lowering production costs.

The three orders were signed during Grafitalia 2006 for the Presstek 52DI, selected by two pre-press companies near Brescia, and for the Presstek 34DI by a digital print and copy shop in Milan.

Tipolito Fiorucci at Collebeato (BS), owns three conventional offset presses and one digital toner press, chose the Presstek 52DI to increase its printing capacity.

Armando Fiorucci, another owner, was impressed with Presstek's technology because of his successful experience with the Dimension425 Excel CTP, which was installed a few years ago, said Presstek.

Fiorucci chose the Presstek 52DI to manage short run colour high quality print runs for a variety of applications - from business cards and brochures to books and folding carton packaging.

He believes the new press will enable his company to be more profitable by filling the gap that exists between a digital press, which runs most profitably under 250 impressions, and a conventional press.

The Presstek 52DI is claimed to be capable of cost-effectively producing up to 10,000 impressions per hour and with a higher quality than digital copier technology.

The Presstek 52DI's small footprint was a key factor in Tipolito Teco's purchasing decision, said Presstek.

The growing pre-press firm is based in Brescia and must deal with space limitations.

Equipped with a conventional offset 35 x 50 press and a Presstek CTP, the print shop is working at maximum capacity.

Guido Lovato, the owner, wanted to expand the company's rage of services but there was no room for a new press but when Lovato saw the 52DI, he was impressed by the machine's capabilities and convinced by its compact size.

The completely automated press can produce more work in less time than a conventional press and eliminates the workflow steps and costs associated with conventional printing plate production, added Presstek.

Tipolito Teco serves over 800 clients in Italy, as well as France, Spain, Mexico and Israel.

Timbro-loreto Copyline, based in Milan, was the first European company to instal the Presstek-branded 34DI.

Ordered at Grafitalia and installed during July, the 34DI is delivering new capabilities and revenue streams to the digital printing and photocopy centre.

Timbro-loreto specializes in mono and colour digital photocopying and printing, large-sized poster printing, as well as CAD technical printing.

Vito Ferrone, the chief exeuctive officer and general manager of the company, rejected offset printing as being technically complicated and costly.

When Ferrone saw the Presstek 34DI, he recognised that the machine is suitable for a digital printing environment.

Fully automated, it digitally images all four plates simultaneously on-press and eliminates the need for CTP or chemicals, added Prresstek.

The A3+ format of the 34DI is the most popular size amongst digital printing shops and the same format of 90 per cent of Timbro-loreto Copyline's jobs.

The 34DI portrait press enables 7,000-sheets-per-hour throughput, whilst handling up to an A3 sheet size (340mm x 460mm or 13.39" x 18.11") and imaging on a range of printing stocks and substrates, including plastics and envelopes, said Presstek.

The Presstek 34DI went in to production immediately after it was installed and needed only minimal training to operate.

Timbro-loreto Copyline said that it now has the ability to offer a wider range of services and has gained a competitive edge, producing fast short run colour, cost effectively, and with superior quality.
