Presstek will be hosting an open house with its Italian distributor Digraph from October 19 - 20 at Digraph's recently appointed Presstek DI Centrr in Pomezia, Rome (Italy).

Digraph has been Presstek's distributor in Italy for over 10 years.

The company's Pomezia-based headquarters covers 3,600 square metres, which includes sales, marketing and administration offices, a warehouse and a demonstration centre.

Digraph was recently appointed as a Presstek-authorised DI centre to provide sales, service and support for Presstek direct imaging (DI) presses.

During the open house, Digraph will showcase the Presstek 52DI, which was launched at Ipex and had a successful debut in the Italian market at Grafitalia.

There will also be demonstrations of the Presstek CTP Dimension425 Excel with the chemistry-free Anthem Pro plates.

Presstek's director of European sales and marketing, Raymond Hillhouse, said: "As an extension to Presstek's customer-focused approach, the DI centres enable direct access to our expertise and knowledge base for customers.

It's an important way for customers to experience the value of Presstek products by seeing them in operation." Fabrizio Fiorito, Digraph's general manager, added: "Italian printers who could not attend Grafitalia have now the opportunity to see the DI press first-hand and experience its high level of automation, speed and outstanding printing quality." Presstek believes that the 52DI press is positioned to provide significant productivity and cost advantages to the 35cm x 50cm format, four-colour short run market.

Its small footprint and environmentally-friendly operation is said to provide additional value for the Italian print provider that seeks a compact, high-end press that does not require chemicals or platemaking.

The claimed cost savings are equally attractive and according to Presstek, studies have shown that a DI press is unbeatable in price and performance for print runs from 250 to 10,000 impressions.

The 52DI that will be demonstrated at the open house will be configured with a Macintosh and the Momentum RIP.

Files will be generated on the Mac as PDFs and then sent to the RIP for trapping, colour profiling and automatic set-up for the 16 ink keys of the 52DI.

The system is said to simultaneously image the four Profire digital media plates on two drums, without use of chemicals and with uniform ink distribution.

The output displays images that are precisely registered, added the company.

The 52DI is also claimed to hold up to 50 press-ready jobs.

They are ready for printing as sequenced in the queue, or a job can be moved to the front of the queue if it should become more urgent.

The Profire digital media rolls have the capacity to image up to 44 full jobs in a B3 format (520mm x 375mm).

That sheet size ensures economic sheet usage, full bleeds and can produce up to 10,000-sheet-per-hour.

The company added that a range of materials and varying thicknesses, including paper, folding carton or even plastics from 0.06mm to 0.5mm can be accommodated on the press.
