Presstek will be featuring its portfolio of digital offset printing systems from March 2 - 4 at The Graphics of the Americas trade show in Miami, Florida (USA) Presstek said its DI presses, chemistry-free CTP systems and workflow systems are engineered to enable printers to grow their businesses by increasing productivity and quality whilst removing cost from the print production process

To be featured at Graphics of the Americas will be Presstek's 52DI digital offset 52cm press, which is claimed tobe suitable for quick turn-around, short-run high quality colour printing.

The automated landscape sheetfed four-colour digital offset printing press is said to combine the efficiency of an all-digital workflow with the versatility and quality of a conventional waterless press.

Presstek said that with the 52 DI press all four plates are imaged simultaneously in precise register.

File-to-sellable printed sheet occurs in 10 minutes and the DI prints up to 10,000 impressions per hour with a maximum print area of 20.07" x 14.17" per sheet - claimed to be one of the largest print areas available in its class.

The company added that the streamlined workflow reduces the time and cost to turn a job around and the machine provides up to 300 lines per inch (lpi) and FM screening, whilst handling a range of substrates up to 20pt.

(0.5mm).

Users report that the presses are twice as profitable as conventional offset and up to four times more profitable than copier-based technology for short-run colour, a view supported by the Infotrends' market data.

Presstek said that DI presses help print service providers meet the demand for short-run, fast turn-around, high quality colour printing at lower costs, whilst improving their productivity, efficiency and quality levels.

The company's Dimension Excel CTP systems will also be on show at Graphics of the Americas.

Dimension Excel's chemistry-free operation produces daylight-safe plates that providemore jobs in the same amount of time by automating key steps and by eliminating time-consuming pre-press procedures, claimed Presstek.

The systems are available in two-page and four-page models.

Dimensystems are said to provide high performance with a streamlined workflow and high quality printed results from Presstek's Anthem Pro grained plates.

That combination, according to the company, provides a chemistry-free plate that does not require any gumming, baking or chemical processing and supports run lengths up to 100,000 impressions.

The Presstek Vector TX52 system, with Freedom plates, which will also be exhibited, is a chemistry-free platesetter that provides the small format (52cm and under) printer with an affordable metal platemaking system for higher productivity, cleaner operation and lower production costs, said the company.

After imaging, Freedom plates are automatically cleaned with water in the Vector's integrated plate washer and exit the system ready for mounting on press.

Freedom plates require no baking, special cleaning fluids, or gumming, resulting in less waste material and a more environmentally friendly print shop.

The plates are suitable for high-quality, short-run printing with run lengths up to 25,000 copies, said Presstek.

Presstek's chief marketing officer, Todd Chambers, said: "Today's print service providers are looking for ways to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

This first major trade show of the year is a particularly good time for print providers to see what's new and plan their annual investments.

Presstek's chemistry-free digital systems help printers add new services, produce higher quality printing and improve their overall productivity and profitability." One such printer is Gary Forbes who owns and operates the Sir Speedy franchise in Asheville, North Carolina (USA) who saw an increasing requirement for four-colour printing in the 2,500 to 10,000 range, which he could not effectively produce on either toner-based digital press or his two-colour presses.

Forbes commented: "Whilst we could have upgraded our two-colour conventional printing, it seemed to me that the Presstek DI press was the future of four-colour offset." As a result of acquiring his DI press, Forbes has been able to meet those emerging customer needs as well being able to pursue a range of new business.

He added: "The word is spreading and we are now getting requests from people who wouldn't even consider us before." Presstek added that during Graphics of the Americas, visitors will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from its distributors - Gutenberg (Brazil), Sun Digital (Mexico) and Perez Trading Company (The Caribbean).
