Faster Production, More Quality From
Hamada Press
Reduced production times and improved quality have resulted from a Hamada B452AI MKII four-colour press and a Presstek Vector TX52 metal, chemistry-free platemaker at UK printing company, Print Team.
Print Team chose the Hamada B452A four-colour press, which was supplied by Presstek, because it is suitable for the high quality, short-run colour printing market and has short set-up times, said the company The press's inking and dampening systems are computer-designed and it includes automatic plate loading, an ink key control system, stream feeder, vacuum feed bed, automatic blanket washers, swing gripper in-feed, landscape feeding and an infra-red drying unit

Damian Smith, the managing director, of the family-owned Print Team, said: "Given the efficiency and the quality that we can now achieve on four-colour process work, this investment was long overdue.
What we were able to produce in a day on a two-colour press can now be done in an hour." Smith works with his brothers Martyn and Alex and father Chris, who started the company in 1991, together with two other employees, in Portland, Dorset (UK).

More Sales For Small Printers' Chemistry-Free CTP
Presstek has sold three Dimension Excel CTP systems to Behrends + Spranger GmbH.
And he continued: "We were outsourcing 65 per cent of our four-colour printing because we weren't equipped to do it rapidly in-house.
Although we were pleased with the quality, it wasn't cost or time effective, particularly as we outsourced more and more work.
We were in the hands of others so we couldn't give our customers a firm time when their jobs would be ready.
Consequently, we weren't as competitive as we should have been." When Print Team wanted to source a new press it turned to Presstek because the company had previously supplied an ABDick 9995 two-colour press and a DPM 34 polyester platesetter.
As Smith emphasised: "As well as having the equipment that suited our size and type of business, we also felt confident that Presstek would support us during our transition to four-colour printing.
We knew the firm well and were pleased with the service it has provided over a number of years.
We knew what was on the market but we didn't seriously look at any other presses because the Hamada offered the best value option for price and performance.
It's quality is just as good as many other more expensive presses." Print Team also bought a Presstek Vector TX52 platesetter, which is said to be suitable for the quick-print and small commercial or in-plant printer because it is claimed to provide an affordable, small-format, chemistry-free CTP system that image metal plates at a competitive price.
The system supports run lengths up to 25,000 impressions with 52cm plates, bringing affordable metal platemaking within reach of even the smallest print operations and allowing them to benefit from the advantages of metal platemaking, such as easier press operation, durability, reuse and accurate registration, according to Presstek.
Damien Smith explained: "The Vector TX52 has the added benefit of being chemistry-free.
This is the company's first step in providing an environmentally friendly printing system and one which we think will bring us new business.
The combination of the press and the platesetter has given us the quality we were lacking to compete with larger printers.
We are confident that it will give us a good return on our investment.".
