Presstek DI printing boosts profits, says study

A Presstek Inc product story

Presstek DI printing services can bridge the profitability gap between toner-based and conventional offset printing, according to an independent study.

The research, conducted by Infotrends, has revealed that 80 per cent of survey respondents indicated that the use of Presstek's DI presses allowed them to increase their businesses by helping them to attract new customers.

According to Presstek, the key findings from the report also showed that make-ready on a DI press is faster than on conventional offset machines, whilst the 'sweet spot' for DI printing is in the range of 500 to 20,000 finished press sheets, making DI printing services suitable for profitably filling the gap that exists between toner-based and conventional offset operations.

At the same time, the research showed that DI printing revenue is expected to reach 44 per cent of total printing revenue over the next two years for those respondents' businesses.

In addition, respondents with multiple print technologies indicated that Presstek DI presses are more profitable than their conventional offset and digital colour toner devices.

Kathy McHugh, Presstek's chief marketing officer, said: 'Respondents reported that volumes for DI press and toner-based printing are increasing, while conventional offset volumes are declining.

'With 80 per cent of the print buyers demanding four-colour printing in quantities of 5,000 impressions or less, Presstek DI customer sites are using their DI presses as tools to maintain and grow their businesses by economically capturing this growth market, while also satisfying the accompanying demand for higher quality and faster turnaround times.'.
