Digital offset press prints on plastics and foils

A Presstek Inc product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team May 28, 2009

One of Presstek's 52DI-UV digital offset presses at LSD G Neumann (LSD) in Hamburg, Germany, is meeting a demand for plastic films and foils for major consumer brands.

LSD, which has Procter and Gamble and Imperial Tobacco among its customers, specialises in high-end screen printing packaging designs for the food, beauty and tobacco industries.

Gunther Neumann, managing director, said: 'Our clients typically require printing on more than just paper.

'They often need plastic films and foils.

'Now that we have installed the Presstek 52DI-UV press we are able to more efficiently service this demand.

'The 52DI-UV press uses UV waterless offset inks, which allows us to produce high-quality colour work on a much wider variety of materials.

'It combines the best of offset, digital and screen printing and we can now efficiently produce small volumes without an expensive pre-press workflow, as is the case with screen printing,' he added.

Presstek said that with the DI-UV digital offset press UV waterless inks dry instantly, speeding the delivery of the printed product and increasing throughput volumes so that quicker responses to customer requests can be realised.

The press is also capable of printing on uncoated stock and non-porous substrates, such as plastics, foils and magnetic media.
